Historic Portland Wedding Venue: The Victorian Belle Mansion featured in The Oregonian

We were honored to have been visited by Janet Eastman, a journalist for The Oregonian, for this wonderful feature that shares the storied history of The Victorian Belle Mansion while celebrating its current incarnation as a Portland wedding venue. Today, this fully-restored Queen Anne sits regally on 2.5 acres of immaculate gardens and is considered one of Portland, Oregon’s most enchanting wedding and event venues.

Historians believe that Victorian Belle, also known as the David Cole House, “was the first Portland-area residence to have indoor electricity and hot-and-cold running water supplied by a windmill-powered water pump. Another first: Rooms were vented to a wood-burning stove to provide central heating. A voice-powered intercom, similar to tube systems found on ships, summoned servants…

In honor of Women’s History Month, we present Amanda Cole:

The historic Victorian Belle Mansion was built in 1885 as a gift from David C Cole to his wife, Amanda. Constructed of lumber milled entirely from the property, the original building costs came to $8000, a large sum in those days.
